| New Standard Bank "You have an EFT payment" Scam |
The latest formulation of the scams targeting Standard Bank customers. An email is received telling you someone has made an EFT payment into your account and it's quite a large sum quoted in the email too, enough to get the greedy people to perhaps click the link in the email. Well, as always the link is disguised and takes you to site that looks exactly like the Standard Bank Internet Banking web site and should you type your details into their fake web site you give the thieves your internat banking logon information. DO NOT ever click on links in these emails, your bank will NEVER EVER contact you via email regarding account activities.
Mail looks as follows: Hello, James Du Plesis made an electronic funds transfer to your account. The details of this transaction are shown below. Amount: R39 470.00 Description: PAYMENT Reference #: TL55 To view the transaction, please https://www5.encrypt.standardbank.co.za (<< link points to http://golftrolleyshop.com/libraries/joomla/application/module/jeje/index.html) If you have any questions related to this message or the funds transfer, please contact James Du Plesis. Please do not reply to this message as your message will not go anywhere. Sincerely, Standard Bank |
