RICA Law is a failure and nothing more than a government spy mechanism E-mail

The RICA law introduced into South African law and enforced since June 2011 has proven itself thus far to be nothing more than a massive failure. RICA promised us that crime committed using cellular phones would come to an end but all we have seen in the last 5 months is an INCREASE in cell phone initiated crimes. The amount of reports that this web site receives on a daily basis from people STILL receiving scams via SMS tells the true story of how RICA is not doing the job at catching criminals. We have always been of the firm opinion that RICA was nothing more than a government spy mechanism designed to invade the privacy of upstanding, taxpaying citizens of South Africa and until we see a complete end to scams being conducted from South African soil using South African mobile phones we will remain of that opinion.

Shnauzer Puppy Scam (Animal Kingdom / Dr Morgan Palma / Pet Delivery International / Pet Travel) E-mail
Wednesday, 02 November 2011 13:03

This message submitted by one of our readers who got scammed by these pet selling syndicates who never ever send you your pet. Any law agency wanting to make contact with the person who got scammed please contact us and we will put you in touch.

I just read on your site regarding the women that was scammed with the yorkshire terrier. I am from Namibia and the exact same thing happened to me. The guy I dealt with in South Africa's name was Von Hugo and he did the same to me.  I paid him the amount of R2000.00 for the Shnauzer puppy plus R 800.00 for all the papers. Afterwards Dr Morgan also sent me an email stating that they have my puppy and that I had to make a deposit of R 5000.00 for the crate which I would have receive back once the puppy was delivered to me in Windhoek. Please find attached all the email correspondence. I am busy scanning the document and will mail it within the next two or three minutes.

Hi

Thank you so much where in South Africa do you live? If I qualify to buy one of you puppies would it be possible to fly her to Namibia, as it is much faster and the road is so hot for a small schnauzer baby in my opinion.  When would be a suitable time to get in contact with you.

I must say I have never seen the black and white schnauzer like the sweaty in the first photo.

Subject: Schnauzer Puppies For sale R2000

HI
My Schnauzer puppies are very suitable for most families,as they are the very demanding breed to take care of, and difficult to housebreak.They will need a strong, dominant owner. They are obedient when properly trained, affectionate with their owners and excellent with kids and other house hold pets. They do well with other dogs and pets as long as they are well socialized. As a puppy they tend to chew a great deal so they must be provided with plenty of chew toys. Their powerful jaws can tear through wooden fences. They must not be allowed off the leash unless they are in very tall, fenced in areas. They can be trained for agility, competitive obedience, weight pulling and jumping, and indeed, competes in agility, obedience, weight pulling and jumping in SA at the highest level.With my puppies, No hereditary diseases are known for this breed. Well cared for, .Each and everyone of my puppies comes along with the following;

QUESTIONS FOR YOU
-have you owned Schnauzer puppies before?
-do you have other pets in your home?
-do you have kids?
-what is your work schedule?
-do you have a large acre of land?
-do you take puppies out for walks?
-where are you located?

Dear Client,

The CBP has been entrusted with enforcing some 400 laws for 40 other government agencies, such as the South African Fish and Wildlife Service and the South African Department of Agriculture. The Pet Authorities checked and discovered that your puppy's parents are Akc registered while the puppy is KUSA registered but the documents that was asked has not come through yet and your puppy may be sent to US. The only thing you can do to get that puppy delivered to you is to back up the Akc papers and prove that you are financially viable to take care of the pup and it's going to cost you a lot.

Department of Works and Housing - 419 Scam E-mail
Thursday, 27 October 2011 11:34

Hi readers, here's a new 419 (advance fee) scam doing the rounds at the moment.

FROM: ALEX NGOBANI
# 45 EDENVALE STREET,
PETERSBURG JOHANNESBURG
SOUTH AFRICA

ATTENTION: (CEO).
DEAR SIR/MADAM

My name is MR ALEX NGOBANI; I am a senior government official in the department of works and housing of the Republic of South Africa and the chairman of the board in charge of the award, execution and supervision of all contracts in the Ministry of works and Housing. In 2007, I personally monitored and supervised the award of contracts for the supply of building materials and construction of ultra modern shopping complexes and medium / low cost housing units in the Eastern Cape, North and Eastern areas of the Natal province.

Myself and two of my colleagues, serving in the board, deliberately inflated and over invoiced the contract sum, leaving an excess of US$80,500,000.00 (Eighty million five hundred thousand United States dollars). At the completion of the contract, the real contract sum was paid to the original contractors, leaving the excess, which we reported to the federal Government that it belonged to the sub-contractor that handled part of the original contract. But the company we submitted as the beneficiary was a non-existing foreign company, which was a purported attempt by us to divert the money for our private use. I do not intend to mince words with you, I have to tell you the truth; this is a deal but it is 100% risk-free and genuine because the contract has been perfectly and genuinely executed and completed. It depends on whether you are interested or not.

Right now this amount is due for payment and is floating in the treasury not attached to anyone/company. We are only three people who know the origin of this fund. But we cannot claim it by ourselves because we are civil servants therefore we are looking for a trustworthy foreign company / individual whose name we can use to claim the money.

This is strictly a business deal, but it is 100% risk-free and secure because we will use our official positions to source all the necessary approvals to reflect that you/your company genuinely executed and completed the contract. All necessary arrangements have been put in place in all the relevant departments for immediate approval of this payment.

For your co-operation, we have agreed to offer you 25 % of the entire amount on conclusion of the transaction while 75% will be for us. Please if you are interested in this proposal, I want you to respond immediately through my personal e-mail address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for further information and directives.

This transaction is expected to be completed within 14 working days and is highly confidential and discreet.

Thank you for your co-operation. Your urgent reply is awaited.

Best Regards,

MR ALEX NGOBANI

Beware of Online Pet Selling Scams (Yorkies, Bulldogs, Birds) E-mail

Thanks to one of our readers for alerting us to an old scam that is STILL doing the rounds. Such a scam once again shows another failure of the RICA system which was supposed to stop this.

Please be VERY careful of buying pets from online classified sites. There is one scammer operating on a variety of local classified web sites selling Yorkies, Bull Dogs, Birds and possibly more. The only problem is that this scammer is not selling anything but merely swindling people out of their money. In addition he has stolen photos from a photographer who reported the issue to us and he was very rude and swore at her when she questioned him on stealing her photos for using to run his scams.

The scammer uses the cell phone number 0717594007 and we hope the authorities will catch up with this person.

Apple Electronics Online Scammers (Worthing Electronics) E-mail
Thursday, 06 October 2011 10:11

Submitted by one of our readers:
(we have checked the companies database and there is no registered company in SA called Worthing Electronics)

PLEASE buy your electronic goods from authorised stores and dealers, there are far too many attractive offers
online that are often 50% cheaper than the actual retail price, that alone says you are going to be scammed.
We found adverts posted by Worthing Electronics on some South African classifieds sites and they only have a
cell number and a gmail address as contact details, that's another big warning sign because any legitimate
company claiming to be an authorised Apple Distributor will not use a cell number and gmail address as their
primary contact details. Some of their ads posted here and here.

Email from our readers Reads:

IPAD for sale or Apple PC or any electronics.

On Sale by Worthing Electronics, they also go by various other names.

They appear to be based in way out places such as Bloemfontein or polokwane. Even have business addresses and office hours times.
But the shop doesn’t exist, it is a scam, they operate in a huge syndicate.

Always posting their adverts in smaller town internet publication, They never advertise in the larger online classified.

They claim 24hr delivery countrywide through fedex. And they claim to be apple retailers.
But when u phone them, they sound more like Nigerians.

BE WARNED
I have been scammed out of my money.
I have purchased an Apple IPAD from them, paid them in Full through EFT.
They promise 24hrs delivery and 30 days money back guarantee.
U get a tracking number from a bogus courier company which they say is part of Fedex which will deliver to your door.
Then u see your parcel getting tracked from the UK.
Everything seems fine until it comes to SA, then its tracked as HELD BY CUSTOMS.
Then u get a call from them saying to pay an extra R2500 for customs and they’ll pay you later.
If you fall into this trap, you will be now be swindled out of your money twice.
They promise you your 30 day money back, but nothing happens.

So, please be warned of all these so called companies like Worthing electronics or the like.
Which are not based in the so called big cities..advertising in smaller classifieds.

Do you homework properly and find out if this is a legitimate south african company.
U rather go directly to them if it’s a legal store than await this nightmare.
Or buy from reputable and recognized online stores who advertise in larger networks.

Don’t be caught out of your hard earned money.

Beware of Tech Support Phone Scam from Ammyy.com E-mail
Monday, 03 October 2011 08:39
The ammyy.com phone scam has been continuing for some time now and a reader here in South Africa alerted us to a recent call they received from these people attempting to get him to load their remote access software on his computer.

If you ever get a call from anyone telling you they detected something on your computer and need you to go to their web site simply tell them to F-off and put down the phone. The only tech support company you ever deal with is the one you actually know and even then be aware of them loading any remote access software without your permission, it is illegal for anyone to load remote access software without informing you and geeting your permission.

Times are tough financially and scammers are elevating their methods to catch people.
